Ye Olde Sturbridge Village: a made-uppe historie

Chapter IV: Meete the Grim Reaper

The Grim Reaper was not allways depicted as a dour deathe-bringing specter. In the MDCCCs, he was thought of as a help-ful wraithe who not only un-burdened a village of its lesse productive members, but also pitched in at harvest tyme. His scythe was saide to be the sharpest, and his funnie hat the tallest. This rare photo-graph shows “Grimmy”, as he was knowne, cutting wheat on the out-skirtes of Ye Old Sturbridge Village. His assistant, Ralph, is seen at right.
